Director, Cape Fear Regional Bureau for
Community Action, Inc.
P.O. Box 2065
Fayetteville, NC 28302-2065
Dear Mr. Rozier:
I am very pleased to extend to you an invitation to serve as a member of the North Carolina AIDS Advisory Council. As you know, the North Carolina AIDS Advisory Council (Council, NCAAC) is the statewide advisory group created in 1994 with a mission of “… providing State policymakers informed and unified advice, advocacy and leadership on issues relating to the HIV epidemic.” If you accept this appointment, you will become one of eighteen North Carolinians whose advice and guidance are sought and whose leadership and advocacy are expected as we continue the collective efforts to fight HIV/AIDS in North Carolina.
I have been extremely impressed with your personal and organizational dedication and commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS and other STDs in your community. Your initiative, creativity and leadership, as well as the work you do every day, have been recognized statewide and beyond. When people think of Ashley Rozier, they think of an incredibly dedicated and hard working African American man who says what he believes and does what he needs to do to get the job done. These are behaviors, along with a willingness and ability to work positively and cooperatively as a member of a collective, that are essential to the success of the Council and the achievement of the Council’s – and the State’s – mission and goals.
Serving on the Council is an important position; one that is reserved for those that I believe can participate as an effective partner, and that can make significant contributions to the dialogue that must occur and to the actions that must take place if North Carolina is to make any progress in the HIV/AIDS prevention and care arena. You obviously fit that profile extremely well, and I sincerely hope that you will accept this invitation to continue your outstanding work and service to the people of North Carolina as a member of the Council.
Thank you for your past and future efforts on behalf of your community and the people of North Carolina. I look forward to your positive response to this appointment, and to working with you as a member of the North Carolina AIDS Advisory Council. For your information and planning, the next meeting of the Council is scheduled for Friday, February 21, 2003, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., in Raleigh. Please contact me (919-733-7081) or Steve Sherman, staff to the Council (919-715-3111), if you have any questions about the Council and to provide your response.
Sincerely,
Leah Devlin, DDS, MPH

Subject: A few notes on NCAAC Membership and 2003 Meeting Schedule
Importance: High
Hi y'all,
Just a very quick note to wish you a Happy New Year; I hope you had a great holiday season and had some time to get at least a little rest among the celebrating. It looks like the new year will bring lots of issues and activities and work that will keep us all very busy, so here goes...
1st - The Council scheduled all 4 of its (currently anticipated quarterly) 2003 meetings at the last (November 2002) meeting. The meetings are set for the 3rd Friday of the month, starting in February. Please put the following dates on your calendars:
 Friday, February 21st,
 Friday, May 16th,
 Friday, August 15th, and
 Friday, November 21st
The group also agreed that all of the meetings will be held in Raleigh, and will likely run from 10:00 a.m. to ~3:30 p.m.. I hope to see y'all there for all of the meetings!
2nd - The Statewide Community Planning Group has acted to fill two vacancies in their four member representation on the Council. The information on the nominated individuals will be forwarded to Dr. Devlin within the next week for her consideration and action. It is expected that the two new SCPG representatives will join us at the February 21st meeting.
3rd - I'm pleased to announce that Ashley Rozier, II, Director of the Cape Fear Regional Bureau for Community Action, Inc., located in Fayetteville, has been added to the Council by action of Dr. Leah Devlin. A copy of Dr. Devlin's letter of invitation, to which Mr. Rozier has responded positively, is attached for your information. It is anticipated that he will join us at the February 21st meeting as well.
I am also attaching a list of current Council members, with contact information, for your information. It will be updated once the new SCPG representatives are added. If you see any errors in your information, please let me know by e-mail and I will make the necessary corrections on the list.
That's it for now. I welcome suggestions of topics and/or speakers that you would like to have on the Council's meeting agenda during this year. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions.
Steve
