December 31, 2001
Dear Mr. Rozier, II:
The Nia Community Action Center, Inc. and citizens of the Triad area profoundly appreciated you being the keynote speaker at our First Annual Triad Grassroot Empowerment Banquet, Friday, December 14, 2001 held at High Point University, High Point, NC.
Your speech was very heart warming and passionate, pertaining to what grassroot African American citizens need to do collectively in addressing the economic, social, political, psycho social, and health concerns in our great state. Your speech empowered so many countless individuals, faith institutions and community–based organizations, who never heard an individual so honest and straight forward in addressing these concerns. Also, I believe that your bold vision and leadership is far ahead of many North Carolinians.
If African Americans, like you said, begin to become less selfish and are willing to become empowered, the African American Community would be relieved from the many social injustices you most eloquently addressed at the banquet.
I appreciate your mentoring the Nia Community Action Center, Inc. on a continuous basis in building its infra structure, when no other individual in the state, as well known as you, would assist me at all. Because of these reasons, I commend the Cape Fear Regional Bureau For Community Action, Inc.’s Board of Directors, Staff, Volunteers and Supporters, along with the Rev. Leon H. Sullivan Community Health Foundation, Inc.’s Board of Directors for supporting you. Therefore, giving other community–based organizations, individuals and faith based institutions across the state the opportunity to provide the necessary services needed within their communities.
Finally, I would like to say, I would like you to forward a copy of this correspondence to your Board of Directors and Supporters across the state. Once again, thank God for you!
Sincerely,
Derrick Whitaker, CEO
